Court Of Appeal Ruling Backed Rivers State To Collect Value-Added Tax – Human Rights’ Lawyer, Ozekhome Tells Federal Agency, FIRS

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKSEP 11, 2021 Human rights' lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has interpreted the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja in the favour of the Rivers State Government, saying the state government should collect the Value-Added Tax (VAT) as opposed to the Federal Inland Revenue.

INEC CHAIRMAN:MAHMOOD YAKUBU Posted by: Ofozor Kingsley Nnamdi.  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would only recognise and deal with 18 political parties for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, pending the Supreme Court judgment regarding its powers to deregister parties. The Commission said the clarification became necessary following various letters submitted to it recently by some of the deregistered parties signifying the intention to conduct primaries with a view to submitting names and particulars of candidates for the Anambra poll. Recall that the electoral body had on February 6, last year, de-registered 74 political parties for failing to win any political office in the last general election. Dissatisfied by the ruling, the Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) and 22 other parties approached the court to challenge their de-registration by INEC. At its third regular quarterly meetings for the year with political parties in Abuja on Monday, the commission’s Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said the new device called the Z-pad, which has been integrated into the IVED currently used for voter registration, will help tackle the fear of identity theft during elections. Mr Yakubu said the new device would be deployed in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State . JAMB arrests candidate who sued the board N1 billion for altering his result.

Posted by Ofozor Kingsley Nnamdi A 19-year-old candidate in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has been arrested by the FCT police command for accusing JAMB of altering his results. The student identified as Chinedu Ifesinachi John, had claimed that he scored 380 in the exams which held in June 2021, but was surprised to see 265 when he checked his results. JAMB arrests candidate who sued the board N1 billion for altering his results Chinedu made bare his allegations when his father, Mr John Ifenpkam contracted an Enugu based lawyer in the person of Ikeazor Akaiwo to write to JAMB to allow Chinedu retake the exam, and also demanded N1 billion in damages. In the suit filed against JAMB, the lawyer claimed the N1 billion was to cover for the emotional and physical trauma Chinedu had suffered from his results being altered by the board from the 2019 - 2021 examinations, thereby denying him the opportunity to study his preferred course - Medicine.....

JAMB scraps uniform cut-off marks

Ofozorkingsleynnandi@gmail.com The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has pegged the fee for post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (post-UTME) at N2,000. It also adopted the minimum cut-off marks for 2021/2022 admissions sent by heads of tertiary institutions across the country. The adoption signifies that there will be no uniform cut-off marks for 2021/2022 admissions, as was done in the past. Every institution is expected to maintain its minimum score during the admissions. These are some of the decisions taken at Tuesday’s 2021 policy meeting held virtually and chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, at the headquarters of JAMB in Bwari, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
